Soccer Season!

Another beautiful September here in Washington brings the beginning of the new soccer season! Drew is playing on the same team, the Hotshots, and is doing great. She made six goals in the last game they had! We are fortunate to have a girl in our neighborhood who is great at soccer and loves to take Drew to the park and practice with her. Her game has really improved, and her love of the sport has grown too!
Her "official" games start this next weekend and she can't wait to get out there! The only complaint she has is when the coach makes them run the whole practice! But really, can you blame her??






Nicolas is starting his first season now! He was so excited to go to practice and just run with other boys who have the same amount of energy that he does! Practice this past week was spent trying to get him to focus and actually know what the heck he is doing out there! He kept asking his coach who was on his team! The coach would say "all these boys you are practicing with Nicolas". Nicolas would then say "well did I win the game?". He didn't quite get what the difference between practice and a real game was. He did enjoy chasing his shadow around for a good twenty minutes of the practice though!
Yesterday was his first "real game". Stan and I were not sure what to expect, and felt a little anxious about the whole thing. Not only is this his first time playing, but he is the youngest, most inexperienced player on his team! Nicolas totally surprised us and did awesome! His team was great and ended up making like seventeen goals! And the best part was, Nicolas made one of those!!! He wanted to be on the field the whole time, and when he had to sit out he would just keep asking when he was going back in to play. He showed great team spirit too by hugging the other boys and yelling "YEAH"! whenever they did something great. He gave lots of high fives and thumbs up, and really just had a great time!
